Stripes or solids?

It’s the cutest thing, really.
When I come home laden with grocery bags, fabric store finds, or random odds and ends from Target, I’m often greeted by a playful, excited, and half-serious line of questioning when I settle in: “Did you buy anything for *me*??” When Ryan’s in a more entitled mood, he [...]

Pressure Canning Redux

It’s only been a few days since I showed the world my school bag but in that short time it’s gotten quite a workout. If only it could learn by osmosis, it would have found out all sorts of fascinating things just from toting around all those books. But probably, if my bag [...]

A Semester of Joy

Vacation may be over, but the start of school marks the emergence of my back-to-school bag! This bag is sturdy and cute and the perfect size to hold a laptop, power cord, and some folders and files. It will make trekking to and fro in the coming weeks a lot more fun!

Rearrangement

We rearranged our living room recently, eliminating some excess furniture, and overall, we have more space. While we attempt to get used to the change, I am quite pleased because one of my favorite pieces of furniture is now the first thing you see when you walk in:

This rocking chair was a fortuitous and [...]

Under Pressure

Today turned out to be a day of food preparation and preservation. Which is great, because I think we own almost every device for food preservation known to man. Trust me, if there’s ever some disaster that closes all grocery stores in the US, head on over to our house. We’ll have loads [...]

Just when you think it’ll be fine….

You know when you watch cooking shows, and everything they make always turns out pristine, glorious, and oh-so-delicious? And how the sophisticated, permasmiling hosts, wave around their endless supply of top-of-the-line uni-tasking kitchen devices that would cost more than my house is worth? And all the ingredients sit neatly chopped in beautifully [...]

6600 Ways I Love Thee…

I heard tale a while back about this fabulous contest that could win one lucky bag-maker a Janome 6600 sewing machine (normally retailing for just under $2000). A few months ago, I was seriously considering getting a new sewing machine to replace my trusty, but sometimes unhappy and underpowered Pfaff Hobby 1042, and this Janome [...]

A Good Day’s Work

I worked from home today. And there is no greater joy on the night before you know you have to go back to work (the day after a snow day that extended a weekend, no less), that you can crawl out of bed a little later than normal, stumble into your office in your [...]

Double triangle

I think it was maybe 2002 or 2003 when I saw a bag on the shoulder of some unsuspecting woman at this great bar in Cambridge called the West Side Lounge. I loved this bar for many reasons. First, because I am not really a party/loud/raucous bar person, and this is neither [...]
