Lucky Strike – A Shoulder Bag Adventure
I’m not sure why I chose this title. I feel like maybe the new bag and the typewriter went on an adventure together (to a bowling alley!) and are posing for a photo after it was all said and done. But really, the typewriter is too much of a lug to go anywhere, and I haven’t let the bag out of my sight since it’s been finished. So, here it is – the bag with the buttons!
I’ve been dreaming about making a shoulder bag with rounded edges, kind of like a bowling bag. This one turned out not to be so bowling-bag shaped (well, maybe it would hold 3 or 4 candlepin bowling balls, but certainly not the big-ball bowling balls with the holes. (Can you tell I’m a bowling expert?)) but I feel like it would do the trick in a pinch!
It’s got a little AB fabric love going on, with some piping, handles… you know, the typical bag stuff. But! It has feet! My first footed bag:
Aren’t they cute? It’s also got a big inside pocket for lots of stuff and a festive lining that matches the piping:
For a little scale, here’s the bag “on:”
I’m off to the allies!

I love it! I never would have guessed it was that big until seeing the last picture.

Ooh, that is such a nice looking bag – all of the wonderful detailing! That must have taken you forever to make.
I’m so behind on reading my feeds this week, and I really just dropped by tonight to see what that plugin was that you were using for replying to comments, but I was so “bowled over” (heh) by that bag, I had to say something 🙂

What an awesome bag! The buttons look great! I’m so jealous you have all this time to sew 😛 BTW, that table the bag is sitting on is pretty nice, too….

Wow. I want to know how you get the “feet” on the bag. Do you need a special tool like for grommets?

Great job! Your attention to detail makes this bag even more stylish!

@ Dori:
Hey Dori! Actually, adding feet is really easy. It’s just like one of those file binder thingies: stick the prongs through the fabric, then fold over the metal prongs in either direction to secure. Nothing to it, and cute little feet as a result!

Awww… schucks. You’re too kind!

I too love the feet! I think they’ll keep that gorgeous bag cleaner.

this bag is amazing! What pattern did you use? Or did you create your own? I would love to make one. It’s the perfect size and the straps are a great length!

I just wanted to echo Jen’s remarks. This bag is perfect. I like it so much that I just bought myself some of the same fabric. I was going to use it on Amy’s Birdie Sling, but I like your design even more. Is it your own design or a pattern?

This is really cute. Where’d you get the pattern?

@ Barb:
Hi Barb,
I created the pattern for this bag myself. Glad you like it!

@ Martha:
I also love the fabric. I have no doubt it will look fab in a Birdie sling. That is one cute bag!

@ Martha:
Oh, and I forgot to mention – it’s my own pattern.

@ Jen:
Thanks, Jen!
I created the pattern myself. I was looking for a bag about this size and shape and didn’t find one out there (or was too lazy to search and search) so I made it up. I’m glad to see others agree that it’s a good size. This is the one attribute that perplexes the husband 🙂

[…] you sick of this fabric combo yet? I think I finally might be. It only took two bags, a business card holder, a cell phone charging basket, and a belt. Eesh! […]
