Natalie, I'm so glad the BSR post was helpful to you! Any pictures of what you used the BSR to create? Always looking for new inspiration!

I have had my 440QE for several years and am just now getting to using it. I was trying to use the BSR and could not get BSR active symbol to appear so typed into Google "Bernina BSR active symbol does not appear" and bingo, here I am and have spent the whole afternoon on your site. Thanks so much for the great presentations, pictures and all. And thanks for telling me what the manual did not!!!

All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you. I have only had my QE 440 a little over a month and there is a lot I still need to learn as I have never had a sewing machine with a computer before. You answered a very basic question I had about getting the BSR into mode 2. When I get the time I am going to read everything on this website.

The BSR is skipping stitches. I have changed tension, and needles. Nothing is working. The quilting is going fine, then all of a sudden it skips stitches. I am quilting a "string" quilt, and there are spots where the quilt top is thicker (due to seam allowances) than in other areas. But the skipping doesn't seem to be related. I just can't figure this problem out. Any suggestions

Hi Robyn!
I love your tutorials! My hubby just bought me the 440 qe for our 30th anniversary/Mother's Day present. It's hard to explain how exciting it is to get a new (beautiful) sewing machine! You captured how I feel perfectly. I'm waiting for my machine to show up (hurry Mr. Postman!). Your "unwrapping" photos were so fun!
I do have a question for you... I bought the embroidery module to go with my 440 and I was wondering what laptop I should buy to go with it. I am a teacher and I own an awesome new MacBook, which will not work with my 440 :( . I would prefer to not spend huge $$$ for a new laptop. So what would you suggest? Thanks Robyn! Pam

Thanks so much for your informative tutorial. Just got my 440 and spent ages last night trying to get the bsr to work. Found the manual very hard to follow and was getting very disappointed. Have followed your instructions and its working like a dream. Bernina should definitely employ you to write their manual. Very interesting discussion too. Thanks again.

Thanks Kathy! I read that Bernina article just now, and I can't wait to try it. I like their approach of trying different stitch lengths and balancing so you can see the differences. Maybe a more systematic approach will help me to see its magic!

You mentioned the scales icon that is for stitch balancing. I was curious about it too, so I checked the Bernina site. It is used to calibrate the feed length for various fabrics.

They showed an example of manipulating the stipple stitch to look more like one you would do freehand. See here:

I'll have to try that out. BTW, you do great tutorials!
