New Frenchy Handbag

Last week I made the first real item made on my new Bernina machine.  It’s a Frenchy handbag, the smaller version of the other one I made not long ago.  I was skeptical, but I think this turned out pretty cute, even though it’s waaay preppy for my taste.  I used Amy Butler Belle fabric [...]

Bernina Aurora 440 QE: Playing with stitches

So I’ve been playing around with the different stitches on the machine.  Can you tell?
One of the very first things I decided to do was sew a sample of each of the 180 stitches it is capable of.  Boy, that got old fast.  But I got most of the way through until I ran out [...]

Bernina Aurora 440 QE: What’s in the box?

The box.  Brown, cardboard, heavy.

The first thing you see when you pop it open:  Instruction manuals, brochures, the knee lifter, a DVD (that I still haven’t watched) and various other warranty info and such.

Oh-so-cute little Bernina all tucked away in there!  On all sides are various accessories: at the top of the pic is the [...]

Lookit What I Got!!!

After much searching over a series of months, models, and dealers, I have finally made a sewing machine decision. And after a love-at-first-use test drive, I brought it home today:

When unpacked, this glorious box looks even more glorious:

I never thought it would happen. I have a new sewing machine! It’s a Bernina [...]

This weekend was my dear friend Erika’s birthday. She loves accessories, and especially loves the color pink. Here is my contribution to her collection of items that meet both criteria!
It’s an Amy Butler Frenchy bag made with Echino fabric. It turned out bigger than I expected, but it’s still cute, and if [...]

Bzzzz….

I’m happy to say that I had a very crafty weekend for the first time in a while. This was one of the results! It’s a pencil case! Or a double-pointed knitting needle case! Or a crochet needle case! Or your spot for small, little, important things that you don’t want to lose track of. [...]

Spring Has Sprung

Don’t be fooled by the winter coat. Or the 7 inches of snow on the ground. Or the below freezing temps. Today it’s sunny and warm and here at the Dog Named Banjo household, and we’re crazy about the idea that spring might just be around the corner. While our dog [...]

Stripes or solids?

It’s the cutest thing, really.
When I come home laden with grocery bags, fabric store finds, or random odds and ends from Target, I’m often greeted by a playful, excited, and half-serious line of questioning when I settle in: “Did you buy anything for *me*??” When Ryan’s in a more entitled mood, he [...]

A Semester of Joy

Vacation may be over, but the start of school marks the emergence of my back-to-school bag! This bag is sturdy and cute and the perfect size to hold a laptop, power cord, and some folders and files. It will make trekking to and fro in the coming weeks a lot more fun!
